5 out of 5 stars Beautiful   July 30, 2006

Saw an old video clip of Elvis Costello and Chet Baker on Utube and have read stories where EC raves about him. He is right. Beautiful songs and voice and horns. Highly recommended.

My Funny Valentine is an excellent collection of standards. The vocals are stunning. Give a listen - should be on any music lovers shelf.

4 out of 5 stars Why is Baker a good singer?   June 6, 2006

It's difficult to pin down why Chet Baker was a compelling singer. His voice was certainly anemic. But he brought a certain something to every song. I've decided it was his phrasing. He had wonderful phrasing on the trumpet and he (like Louis Armstrong) brought this instrumental phrasing to his singing. Maybe that's what's special about his vocal music.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible!   April 13, 2006

This CD is the closest to perfection that one can buy. This one goes in my all time top five. The music is very well mastered for being from the 50s. And Chet is utterly perfect.
This CD is a must have for any adult's collection.
